Government of Canada awards $800,000 in financial assistance to the Gatineau business as part of an investment project exceeding $2 million
GATINEAU, QC, Jan. 24, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)
Greg Fergus, Member of Parliament for Hull–Aylmer, acting on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED), announced that Imprimerie Gauvin Ltée has been granted $800,000 in financial assistance in the form of a repayable contribution.
As a true economic driver, innovation helps our enterprises grow and benefits communities and the middle class. Businesses need to be able to rely on adequate resources to create and commercialize innovative products. That is why the Government of Canada and its partners are committed to supporting innovative Canadian businesses like Imprimerie Gauvin.
Together with the Government of Canada, Imprimerie Gauvin's other partners, namely the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) and Investissement Québec as well as the City of Gatineau through Investissement et Développement (ID) Gatineau, are funding this project.
Imprimerie Gauvin is a landmark in the Gatineau region. The family enterprise has been in the printing business for 125 years. More specifically, it produces softcover books and is a major player in short and medium book print runs. Imprimerie Gauvin has more than 200 client-publishers of varying sizes across Canada, the United States and Europe.
The financial assistance will go towards the acquisition of equipment and the company's move to a plant, which will help it increase productivity. The funding awarded through CED's Quebec Economic Development Program (QEDP) will be used for the acquisition of software and hardware for on-demand digital printing.
"Thanks to its innovative ideas and an interest in research and development, Imprimerie Gauvin has developed expertise by building on innovation and creating wealth for residents of Gatineau and the region. I sincerely congratulate the company for this great success, yet another example of Canadian ingenuity!"
Greg Fergus, Member of Parliament for Hull–Aylmer
"As Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, my goal is to help businesses grow, innovate and export so that they can create high-quality jobs and wealth for Canadians. That is why we support enterprises like Imprimerie Gauvin."
The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister responsible for CED
"We are delighted with the support from our partners, which is helping us improve our productivity and continue to grow in a traditional market that was disrupted with the arrival of eBooks. The support will help us access local and international markets."
André Gauvin, Chief Executive Officer, Imprimerie Gauvin Ltée
"Whether for promising new products, major restructuring or small improvements to increase efficiency, innovation is critical for any business that wants to reach the next level. Imprimerie Gauvin seized the opportunity to innovate and stimulate growth; this is a perfect example of the entrepreneurial spirit that BDC encourages and supports."
Martin Richer, Director, Outaouais Business Centre, Business Development Bank of Canada
"The printing market in Quebec is experiencing a major upheaval. To stay in business and continue to prosper, our printers have to invest and go digital. Imprimerie Gauvin has understood this. By automating its new production line, this innovative manufacturer will be able to serve its clientele more effectively while developing new products. It was therefore natural for Investissement Québec to participate in its growth by granting a $425,000 loan for the project."
Pierre Gabriel Côté, Chief Executive Officer, Investissement Québec
"The manufacturing sector is a priority for ID Gatineau, and we will be focusing on it in 2018. Imprimerie Gauvin is a good example of an innovative company that is creating wealth in this business sector. We are therefore very proud to support its expansion projects, notably by providing a financial contribution of $150,000."
Jean-François LeBlanc, Vice-Chair, ID Gatineau Board of Directors
