"The Stanley Cup is one of Canada's most iconic sporting trophies, and it is very fitting that during the country's 150th anniversary of Confederation, as well as the 125th anniversary of the Cup itself, a monument to Lord Stanley's gift be unveiled in Canada's capital at the location of the gift itself. This has been an exciting project since its inception eight years ago, and the Board of Lord Stanley's Memorial Monument is tremendously grateful to the Government of Canada for its support, through the Department of Canadian Heritage, as well as to our partners the NHL, the Ottawa Senators and the City of Ottawa."
