The Government of Canada is proud to support young Canadian athletes as they make their transition from playground to podium
WINNIPEG, Aug. 13, 2017 /CNW/ - As the 2017 Canada Summer Games come to an end this evening and young Canadian athletes celebrate together, I invite Canadians to join me in congratulating them on their accomplishments and contributions, not only to sport, but also to their communities and provinces or territories.
The Canada Games continue to provide an unforgettable experience to young Canadian athletes, which will certainly inspire them to strive for excellence beyond this event, on or off the field. This is why the Canada Games are considered a major stepping stone for participants on their way to becoming Canada's next generation of high-performance athletes.
The 2017 Canada Summer Games, however, went above and beyond showcasing athletes. This year, we saw an incredible demonstration of community support, through the engagement of thousands of volunteers who helped to run the biggest domestic sport event ever held in the province. The 2017 Games, which took place in the 50th anniversary year of the Canada Games, were sensational. They have attracted more attention than ever, making them a perfect way to promote youth sport and Canadian culture during Canada 150.
On behalf of all Canadians, I congratulate all the athletes on their amazing performances and extend to them my best wishes. Thank you to all the organizers, coaches, officials, and volunteers who have worked so hard this summer. Without you, these Games would not have been such a success.
As the Games leave a lasting legacy here in Winnipeg, we can begin to look ahead to 2019 for the Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, Alberta.
