TORONTO, May 22, 2012 /CNW/ - After a long weekend spent house hunting, Toronto resident Timothy Schell can now buy the house of his dreams. Early this morning, Timothy discovered that he is the winner of the $50 million jackpot from the Friday, May 18 LOTTO MAX draw.
"I am so pleased to be here to celebrate this LOTTO MAX win with another Ontario resident! Our province has been on a winning streak and this weekend's LOTTO MAX draw makes it the eighth time in a row that someone in our province has held the winning ticket for a $50 million jackpot!" said Rod Phillips, OLG's President and CEO, as he presented Timothy with his $50 million cheque.
Soon after arriving at work early this morning, Timothy and his colleague decided to check their LOTTO MAX numbers online.
"We both got our tickets out and I read through the numbers one by one. I was in total shock when my ticket matched all seven numbers. I said to my colleague, 'No way . . . Stuff like this doesn't happen to people like me,'" said the 34-year old electrician.
Timothy bought his lottery ticket on a whim after much coaxing from the cashier at his regular gas station. "I'm not a regular player but the cashier encouraged me to buy a ticket since the jackpot was at $50 million. I'm glad I listened to him!" exclaimed Timothy.
Although the fact that he's now a multi-millionaire is still sinking in, Timothy knows one thing for certain - the house he does eventually buy will have a huge garage.
"I'm a hot-rod man - I love fast bikes, muscle cars and big trucks," he said. "I also look forward to visiting all of the major bike and car shows around the world."
Timothy plans to continue working to keep himself grounded. "I'm the same guy - I'll just have more toys!"
The winning ticket was purchased at Shell Gas Station at 2831 Bayview Avenue in North York.
Since its launch in September 2009, Ontario LOTTO MAX players have won over $1.2 billion in prizes, including 21 jackpot wins and 117 winning MAXMILLIONS tickets from all across the province.
OLG is a provincial agency responsible for province-wide lottery games and gaming facilities.
