MONTRÉAL, June 22, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - Families are the focus of attention at Parc Jean-Drapeau this summer with several new family-oriented activities and many discounts offered all season long. The Parc's 2016 program was announced today at Jean-Doré Beach, at a news conference attended by the media and the Parc's partners. A special public invitation was also issued to come to Jean-Doré Beach for the Opening Party, which will be held this Saturday, June 25.
"We are delighted to provide the details of a summer program filled with lots of new features, aimed at families looking for fun activities that are easy to get to and are very affordable," said Danièle Henkel, the board chair of the Société du parc Jean-Drapeau. "In addition to the family activities being held at the Beach and the Aquatic Complex, this year the Parc will be playing host to many top-notch musical, sports and cultural events, such as the Osheaga Festival, the International des Feux Loto-Québec, and The Color Run. I invite the entire population to come and discover or rediscover this charming site, which is an ideal place for gatherings with family or friends, through the many entertainment possibilities it has to offer."
Other upcoming events that will be among the highlights of the 2016 summer season at the Parc include shows like Heavy Montréal and ÎleSoniq, the Big Bubble Tour, the Montréal Dragon Boat Challenge, the Marathon de Montréal, along with Week-ends du monde presented by Loto-Québec, an event produced by the Société du parc Jean-Drapeau. The program for this year's Week-ends du monde was also announced today.
"Visiting Montréal's great parks is a way of traveling around and meeting our citizens of diverse ethnic origins, chatting, having a picnic on the grass, in the shade of our stately trees, in the city," remarked Réal Ménard, the City of Montréal executive committee member in charge of sustainable development, the environment, major parks and green spaces. "Week-ends du monde at Parc Jean-Drapeau, in particular, is an invitation to take a trip in a unique setting that is emblematic of Montréal. I invite Montrealers to come and celebrate our festive diversity and biodiversity on this spectacular weekend at Parc Jean-Drapeau."
Four New Family Activity Days
People of all ages will have the opportunity to experience some truly memorable moments at Parc Jean-Drapeau this summer, on four new family activity days on the summer program. Visitors are invited to come have a blast at the Opening Party (June 25), celebrate Swimmer's Christmas Day (July 25), discover a fascinating world on the Pirates themed day (August 7) and take part in an introduction to Olympic activities at the Aquatic Complex and Olympic Basin (August 14). The schedule of activities on these special days includes games, entertainment, contests, sports, shows and door prizes.
In a great new feature, every Wednesday throughout the summer, Jean-Doré Beach and the Aquatic Complex are offering free admission to children aged 13 and under, with the purchase of one adult ticket (3 children/adult). And there will be numerous discounts and giveaways offered to visitors during the family activity days.
The Beach's Opening Party on June 25
Jean-Doré Beach will be an exciting place to be for the Opening Party on Saturday, June 25, as a wide array of activities are in store for the whole family! Starting at 10 a.m., our partners, Lafleur, Parks Canada, CKOI, Rythme FM and The Beat will be going all out to enthrall participants with entertainment, music, introductory canoe-kayaking workshops, Zumba, contests, a photo booth, gifts, door prizes and much more. Not to mention the swimming and the pure joy of playing in the sand and lolling in the sun. The crowning moment of the day will be the performance at 3:30 p.m. by 2Frères, the popular Québec folk-rock duo known for their catchy, crowd-pleasing tunes.
Again this year, Jean-Doré Beach beckons visitors to come and try out Aquazilla, an immense floating inflatable structure that has obstacles, slides and platforms. Bigger than ever, Aquazilla is now able to accommodate 80 people, with the addition of four new modules, including a wobbly bridge and a new platform. Along with this activity, there is teletraction wakeboarding, boating, stand up paddle boarding and beach volleyball.
Entertainment for all
Every Saturday throughout the summer, children will be able to take a refreshing dip and unleash some energy during Inflated Saturdays at the Aquatic Complex, on a floating inflatable structure that turns into a fun-filled obstacle course. In addition to the extensive and diversified program at the Parc, there are the must go-to places that are a big part of summer in Montréal: La Ronde with its new rides, the Stewart Museum and the Biosphere, Environment Museum which have educational and playful exhibitions, and the Casino de Montréal with its many shows. From July 17-25, Parc Jean-Drapeau will be playing host to the 51st Québec Games' finals in five disciplines: 3D archery, open-water swimming, beach volleyball, canoe-kayaking and the triathlon.
Parc Jean-Drapeau is proud of the outstanding support provided all summer long by its many sponsors: Loto-Québec, Tourisme Montréal, Coca-Cola, Molson Canadian, Breyers, Parks Canada, Lafleur, and our media partners.
