TORONTO, Dec. 19, 2018 /CNW/ - CTV's MASTERCHEF CANADA and The Little Potato Company announced today the winner of the MASTERCHEF CANADA and The Little Potato Company Competition, crowning Irene Leung of Port Dover, Ont. as the culinary challenge champion for her original, creative recipe, "Little Potato Roses". Today celebrity chef Michael Bonacini cooked the winning dish in front of a live audience on THE MARILYN DENIS SHOW. Visit Marilyn.ca to view the full episode online.
Leung was selected by competition judges including Michael Bonacini, his son Oscar Bonacini, and The Little Potato Company Director of Creative Services, John Edmonds.
After tasting and shortlisting recipes from Canadians across the country, the judges determined the finalist based on small potato usage, taste, visual impact, and story. Leung's recipe was inspired by her rose garden, gifted to her by her husband. Leung used 18 red and yellow potatoes for crispy petals, along with eight more to create a creamy mashed potato base.
With a grand prize valued at $12,000, Leung takes home $10,000 cash, a Le Creuset 10-piece enamelled cast iron set, and a one-year supply of potatoes.
Concluding the fourth year of the cooking competition, MASTERCHEF CANADA and The Little Potato Company thank all participants who took the time to enter the competition. Submissions came in from across the country following the entry period which began on Sept. 24. The list was narrowed down to five finalists and from there, the finalist was determined.
Season 6 of MASTERCHEF CANADA is currently in production and returning to CTV in 2019. Catch up on previous seasons of MASTERCHEF CANADA available now on Crave.
