TORONTO, Jan. 4, 2012 /CNW/ - Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) has begun the prize claim review process for the December 30, 2011 LOTTO MAX jackpot of $50 million which is being claimed by a couple from Hawkesbury, Ontario. As the claimants, JoAnn and Gaetan Champagne, have each been employed as lottery retailers within the past year, their prize claim is subject to OLG's Insider Wins process.
Under this process, the prize claim will be reviewed by OLG, and independently through the province's lottery regulator, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO). The payment of prizes to Insiders is held for 30 days to allow anyone with concerns regarding the prize to come forward. The prize claim is publicly announced through a news release which is also posted on OLG.ca. Anyone having a concern regarding a prize claim may contact OLG at 1-800-387-0098. In respect of the prize review process, OLG does not comment further on a prize claim until the process is complete.
Under the "No Play at Work" policy that came into effect in 2009, OLG retailers cannot purchase, check or redeem their own tickets at their place of employment. Retailers are permitted to play at other retail locations in the same way as any other customer - from the other side of the counter. Prizes won on tickets purchased at other retailer locations are subject to the Insider Wins process.
The Champagnes owned and operated Jo's Depanneur in Hawkesbury until October 2011, with Mrs. Champagne continuing to work at the convenience store until recently. The jackpot-winning ticket was purchased at Pharmaprix in Hawkesbury.
