UNICEF Canada's response to Canadian government match fund for Nepal earthquake response
TORONTO, April 27, 2015 /CNW/ - UNICEF Canada's President and CEO, David Morley, responds to the Government of Canada's announcement today of a matching funds for Nepal:
"We welcome this important initiative on the part of the Canadian government to help the people of Nepal at this critical time. We know with disasters of this magnitude that our ability to provide effective immediate and long-term support can mean the difference between life and death for children. We encourage Canadians to give their generous support to the relief efforts.
UNICEF has been working in Nepal for 50 years and has 200 staff in the country who are working around the clock to meet the immediate needs of children and families, while preparing for the long-term response needed to ensure all of Nepal's children have the opportunity to survive and thrive. These children will never forget this horrifying disaster, but with UNICEF's support, they will be able to move forward and rebuild their lives and communities."
