Travel Advisory - VIA Rail's Montreal-Gaspé train required to terminate its
route in New Carlisle over the next two weeks
MONTREAL, May 28 /CNW Telbec/ - VIA Rail Canada wishes to advise travelers that, over the next two weeks, the Société des chemins de fers de la Gaspésie will be carrying out important maintenance track work on the rail line between New Carlisle and Gaspé, necessitating slower train speeds. To avoid delays, VIA will therefore terminate its Montreal-Gaspé train in New Carlisle for approximately two weeks.
During this period, VIA will provide motor coach transportation in both directions between New Carlisle and Gaspé. The motor coach will stop at all VIA stations on this route, and to the extent possible, at the normal scheduled train times.
"We regret having to make this temporary change to our operations but are confident that doing so will minimize inconvenience and delays to our customers", said Marc Laliberté, VIA President and CEO.
Further updates will be issued once normal operations have resumed.
VIA's Montreal-Gaspé trains leave from Montreal to Gaspé every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday evenings. The train departs Gaspé every Monday, Thursday and Saturday afternoons.
