The Government of Canada Provides $4.5 Million in Funding to the Link Performing Arts Society Français
Minister Rodriguez announces an investment in arts and culture in Halifax
HALIFAX, Dec. 10, 2018 /CNW/ - The Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism, today announced that the Government of Canada is providing $4.5 million in funding to a project by the Link Performing Arts Society. He was accompanied by Andy Fillmore, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism and Member of Parliament (Halifax).
The Government of Nova Scotia also took the opportunity to announce $2.79 million in funding for the same project, as well as $2.9 million for the Link Performing Arts Society through its program Invest Nova Scotia.
The investment provided by the Government of Canada, granted through the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund, will allow the organization to renovate the former Halifax World Trade and Convention Centre and transform it into a multidisciplinary cultural centre for the creation and presentation of theatre, dance, music and film.
Once completed, the new Link Arts Centre will allow the Greater Halifax Area to secure a prime position in Canada's creative industries.

The Link Arts Centre will be located in the former World Trade and Convention Centre in downtown Halifax. The new centre will have a total area of 84,000 square feet.
The Canada Cultural Spaces Fund plays a key role in improving physical conditions for artistic creativity and arts presentation or exhibition. It is also designed to increase access for Canadians to visual, media and performing arts, and to museum collections and heritage displays.
The Fund was established in 2001. As of March 31, 2018, it had provided nearly $665 million to 1,841 projects in every province and territory.
In Budget 2017, the Government of Canada announced an additional $300 million over 10 years for the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund, starting in 2018–19, to further support creative hubs and other cultural spaces.
