TORONTO, Oct. 6, 2017 /CNW/ - In front of his family and an excited crowd, Tyler Smith of St. Thomas took a spin on THE BIG SPIN Wheel at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to win $200,000! Tyler was the fourth person to win a top prize with OLG's new THE BIG SPIN INSTANT game (#2040).
"I won 'THE BIG SPIN' on my very first ticket but didn't even realize it!" shared Tyler. "I scratched my ticket and revealed the word 'SPIN' but I didn't know what that meant. I thought I maybe won a couple dollars or maybe nothing at all."
Tyler's ticket sat on his kitchen counter for a few weeks, while daily responsibilities took precedence. "I knew I needed to check my ticket but I wasn't in any rush – I'm a busy and tired husband and dad to a two-year old."
Finally, while on his way to work the night shift, the 31 year old electrician stopped for gas and decided to check his ticket. "I handed it to the retailer and the machine shut down. I thought something was broken and asked for my ticket back so that I could check it at another store," laughed Tyler. "And that's when the clerk told me that I was a 'Big Winner!'"
The windfall comes at an exciting time in the young family's life. "We are expecting baby number two!" smiled Tyler.
Jewels and journeys are on the list for how to spend the prize money. "I'd like to add another diamond band to my wife's wedding ring set. And a couple trips would be nice. We're thinking about a family vacation to New Brunswick to visit relatives. Plus we've always wanted to travel to London, England to see Buckingham Palace – my grandfather actually worked at the palace so it would be great to visit."
Tyler also plans to share the lottery love with his extended family. "My parents have always been supportive of me and now it's my turn to treat them – I'm thinking of sending them on a trip to Europe or maybe an Alaskan cruise!"
Reality still hasn't set in for Tyler. "I never imagined that I would win the lottery. I'm just a regular guy who bought a ticket and in an instant, everything changed. I feel so fortunate," he concluded.
THE BIG SPIN INSTANT game is an exciting new $5 game that combines popular scratch play with prizes revealed in-store by an animated spinning wheel on the lottery terminal screen and potentially, an in-person spin on THE BIG SPIN Wheel at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto.
THE BIG SPIN INSTANT game has three fun ways to win:
- SCRATCH – To win an instant cash prize of $5 to $100,000 or a SPIN prize.
- WATCH – If the prize won is SPIN, visit any OLG retail location to validate the ticket and watch the animated wheel spin on the lottery terminal screen. Every "SPIN" is a guaranteed win! SPIN prizes range from $10 to $10,000 or a BIG SPIN.
- SPIN – If the animated wheel stops on "BIG SPIN," the prize won is an actual spin on THE BIG SPIN Wheel at the OLG Prize Centre for a guaranteed prize of $100,000 to $500,000!
The winning ticket was Petro Canada on Highbury Avenue in St. Thomas.
