LARGEST JACKPOT IN CANADIAN LOTTERY HISTORY
TORONTO, March 14, 2016 /CNW/ - There is a very BIG story behind that very BIG smile! Zhe Wang of Mississauga has won the largest jackpot ever in the history of Canadian lottery. Zhe held the single winning ticket for the $64 million jackpot from the October 17, 2015 LOTTO 6/49 draw.
Zhe now tops the list of Canada's largest lottery prize winners who struck it rich with a single ticket. Check it out:
- Zhe Wang of Mississauga - $64 Million from the October 17, 2015 LOTTO 6/49 draw
- Joan Patterson of Desboro - $60 million from the February 5, 2016 LOTTO MAX draw
- John Henry of Mississauga - $60 million from the December 25, 2015 LOTTO MAX draw
- Group of 12 from Markham - $60 million from the September 25, 2015 LOTTO MAX draw
- Group of 20 from Quebec - $55 million from the July 17, 2015 LOTTO MAX draw
Prior to Zhe Wang's windfall, the largest jackpot won in Canada was $63,413,885 from the April 13, 2013 LOTTO 6/49 draw. That jackpot was shared between four winning tickets - three sold in British Columbia and one sold in Western Canada
Since LOTTO 6/49 was launched in June 1982, there has been a total of 3,354 LOTTO 6/49 draws with Ontario players having won more than $11.1 billion in prizes, including 1,319 jackpot wins. There have been 294 Guaranteed $1 Million Prize draws to date. One hundred and twenty six of the winning tickets have been sold in Ontario. The winning ticket was purchased at Petro Canada on Artesian Drive in Mississauga.
