TORONTO, Sept. 3, 2014 /CNW/ - Mercedes-Benz Canada and its national dealer network reported today that the company has delivered a total of 3,107 Mercedes-Benz, Sprinter and smart vehicles throughout the month of August. These results are ahead of the sales record set last year by 1.3% and have helped push overall growth this year to 7.7% or 1,826 additional units, with 25,543 units sold so far in 2014.
Mercedes-Benz passenger cars and luxury light trucks recorded 2,516 units retailed in August. This helped push total sales to 21,313 vehicles which represented an increase of 5.3% for the year. Passenger car sales amounted to 1,500 units in August which is attributed to a spike in convertible vehicle sales as well as strong performances for the E-Class and S-Class. On the luxury light trucks side, Mercedes-Benz reported 1,016 units sold. This was fueled by brisk demand for the M-Class which showed a gain of 20% in August.
The diesel take rate for luxury light trucks was 73.2% for the month, while permanent all-wheel drive 4MATIC™ units accounted for 78.2% of overall passenger car and light truck sales in August (excluding smart).
smart recorded a total of 280 vehicles sold throughout August, including 133 zero local-emission smart fortwo electric drive units. These results have yielded a year-to-date growth of 19.1% with 1,478 smart fortwos retailed so far in 2014.
Sprinter continues its monthly record-breaking performance with a total of 311 Mercedes-Benz Sprinters delivered in August. This was a 36.4% increase for the month, and propelled overall growth for the division to 23.1% or 516 units with 2,752 vans retailed.
The Mercedes-Benz Pre-Owned division reported 1,235 retail deliveries in August. A grand total of 9,484 Pre-Owned Mercedes-Benz units have been sold by dealerships across the country year-to-date which translated into an increase of 5.3% or 479 units so far in 2014.
"Nothing says summer quite like convertibles and it's no coincidence that Mercedes-Benz roadsters and cabriolets were favoured to reconnect with the open road in August," said Tim A. Reuss, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Canada. "I am quite pleased with the overall year-to-date results being ahead by a noteworthy margin in comparison to last year's record-breaking sales. As we continue to see strong demand across our entire model range, we also look forward to welcoming, over the course of the next few months, the 2015 models which will include the all-new C-Class, GLA and S-Class Coupe. From urban mobility solutions and versatile SUVs to high performance roadsters and luxurious sedans, we are proud to offer a product range that is well-suited to every transportation need."
