In September, Mercedes-Benz retailed 3,591 passenger cars and luxury light trucks, which contributed to year-to-date unit sales of 30,888, up 5.0% compared to last year. A total of 1,893 Mercedes-Benz passenger cars were delivered during the month. The new generation C-Class Coupe, in particular, yielded an astonishing 380.6% increase in sales. The facelifted SLC and SL also achieved notable sales, growing by 33.3% and 116.7% month-over-month.
Luxury light truck sales were up by 11.2% year-over-year, with 14,608 units sold. September generated particularly strong sales of the GLE Coupe, the G-Class and the GLS, which were up 92.6%, 450.0% and 109.2% respectively.
Mercedes-Benz Vans reported the best September results on record with 597 units delivered for a 5.5% month-over-month increase. Year-to-date, the division has retailed 4,387 vans, or 636 additional units sold, which represented growth of 17.0%. These stellar results were supported by a 66.7% month-over-month sales increase of the Sprinter Cab Chassis.
smart reported a total of 400 vehicles sold in September, supported by sizable captive units earmarked for car2go. Year-to-date, 1,335 smart fortwo vehicles have been delivered, up 141.8%.
The Mercedes-Benz Pre-Owned division reported another record-breaking September with 1,546 units sold for an increase of 2.9%, month-over-month. These results represented year-to-date sales of 12,323 units, up from 11,881 in 2015 for an increase of 3.7%.
