small action' is focus of second George Brown College Social Justice
Conference

Nearly 300 grade 11 and 12 students from Toronto District, Toronto Catholic District and Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Boards to explore civic engagement and social responsibility

TORONTO, April 28 /CNW/ - On Thursday, April 29, the George Brown College Centre for Community Services & Early Childhood, in conjunction with the Toronto District School Board, the Toronto Catholic District School Board and the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board, will be hosting its second Social Justice Conference. This one day conference is designed to help grade 11 and 12 students gain an understanding of the concept of social justice and encourage those attending to take one small action to make a difference in their communities.

The students will take part in a variety of panel discussions and interactive workshops throughout the day, covering topics such as celebrity social activism; making a difference in the lives of seniors living in our local communities; and how the lives of those living in high-risk neighbourhoods can be changed through engagement in the media arts. The keynote speaker for the event is Sol Guy, a leading Canadian social entrepreneur with a long-standing history of community service and youth empowerment. Guy is also the producer, co-creator and host of the original MTV Canada series 4Real.
