TORONTO, Sept. 27, 2012 /CNW/ - The temperature is plummeting across Ontario, but the LOTTO MAX jackpot is heating up. This Friday night's draw sits at an estimated $40 million.
"$40 million is a lot of money. It can be your passport to a world of endless possibilities," said Wendy Montgomery, Vice-President of Lottery Marketing at Ontario Lottery and Gaming.
How big is $40 million? To put it in perspective, Ontario Lottery and Gaming has done the math:
- A line of 40 million loonies, placed edge to edge, would stretch 1,060 km - the distance between Windsor, Ontario all the way up to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario
- 40 million loonies, stacked one on top of the other, would be 7 km high - the height of 12.5 CN Towers
- Melted down, 40 million loonies would be 280,000 kg (or 617,000 lbs) of metal, which is 114 times the weight of the entire Toronto Maple Leafs team
Since its launch in September 2009, Ontario LOTTO MAX players have won over $1.4 billion in prizes, including 23 jackpot wins and 139 winning MAXMILLIONS tickets from all across the province.
For each $5 play, LOTTO MAX players receive three sets of seven numbers ranging from one to forty-nine. Players must match all seven numbers, in any one set, to win the jackpot and the MAXMILLIONS prizes.
Players can purchase tickets at authorized OLG retailers until 9 p.m. Friday, September 28, 2012 for the draw that evening.
OLG is a provincial agency responsible for province-wide lottery games and gaming facilities. Since 1975, OLG lotteries, casinos, slots, and resort casinos have generated more than $34 billion for the benefit of the Province of Ontario. Gaming proceeds support Ontario's hospitals, amateur sport, recreational and cultural activities, communities, provincial priority programs such as health care and education, and local and provincial charities and non-profit organizations through the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
