CAA SCO backs the 'hybrid option' for the Gardiner
TORONTO, May 12, 2015 /CNW/ - CAA South Central Ontario (CAA SCO) is pleased Mayor John Tory supports the 'hybrid option' as a viable choice for the future of the eastern Gardiner Expressway.
The 'hybrid option' maintains the current traffic capacity, forms a link between two main arteries through the City of Toronto while ensuring mobility, safety and quality of life for all road users.
"The proposed hybrid option keeps the vital connection between the Don Valley Parkway and the Gardiner and allows the continuous movement of goods, services and traffic across Toronto that is essential to our economy," said Elliott Silverstein, Manager Government Relations, CAA SCO.
Last week, a study by the University of Toronto's Centre for Intelligent Transportation Systems revealed removing the Gardiner east would mean an increase of up to 10 minutes to eastbound travel times from Park Lawn Road to the east end. The findings also showed tearing down the eastern section would force commuters onto already congested routes such as the DVP and Richmond Street. And the estimated dollar amount due to delays would total approximately $37 million annually.
As a leader and advocate for road safety and mobility, CAA South Central Ontario is a not-for-profit auto club which represents the interests of 2 million members. For over a century, CAA has collaborated with communities, police services and governments to help keep drivers and their families safe while travelling on our roads.
