Minister Leitch congratulates parties on reaching a new agreement
OTTAWA, June 27, 2014 /CNW/ - Today, the Honourable Dr. K. Kellie
Leitch, Minister of Labour and Minister of Status of Women,
congratulated the Québec Port Authority and the Public Service Alliance
of Canada on reaching a collective agreement.
The Port of Québec does business with over 60 countries every year. Its
unique location provides the shortest route by sea between Europe and
the Great Lakes.
The agreement was reached with assistance from the Labour Program's
Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, which provides dispute
resolution and dispute prevention assistance to trade unions and
employers under the Canada Labour Code.
The Québec Port Authority operates the Port of Québec on behalf of the
Government of Canada.
The collective agreement covering 12 office employees expired on
September 30, 2011.
"I applaud both the Québec Port Authority and the Public Service
Alliance of Canada for reaching an agreement. By keeping the Port open,
we can continue to trade goods with our international partners,
supporting jobs here at home. Their collaboration will ensure that the
economy stays strong and benefits all Canadians."
