MONTAGUE, PE, Dec. 10 /CNW/ - For the PEI Royal Canadian Legion, the draw for the winner of the Apple Auto Glass® "Cash Your Chips In Event" did more than bring a successful marketing program to a close, it brought the Legion a much needed gift.
An interesting twist to the national-yet-community-focused promotion was that the $10,000 Grand Prize from Apple Auto Glass® would be split between the winner and his or her charity of choice. For Montague resident Bill Power, it was the Royal Canadian Legion.
"It's a great opportunity to pay tribute to a friend of mine who passed on, George Mill, a member of the Legion and my old horseshoe partner," said Mr. Power. "He was always involved helping to raise money with the Poppy campaigns, so it was nice to be able to do this."
The $5,000, like a donation of any amount, is a welcomed gift for the Montague Legion. "It really is terrific," says an appreciative Dianne Kennedy, the 1st Vice President of the PEI Royal Canadian Legion. "It's a great story and we want to both congratulate Mr. Power and thank him for such a wonderful, thoughtful gift."
More than the nation-wide sales lift that the "Cash Your Chips In Event" generated, what resonates most with the Apple Auto Glass® team is the charitable story. "We are all local owners and operators in our communities, so we get to see first hand the effect of initiatives like this," said Wade Bryanton, owner of three Apple Auto Glass® locations in PEI. "We feel that making a difference in our community is good for business. It takes extra effort, and we've certainly seen that from General Manager, Wendall MacMaster and his Assistant Manager, Billy White, who worked very hard at the Montague location which opened in 1988."
