Tomorrow - NDP Leadership Candidate Peggy Nash to Visit Electro-Motive Picket Line in London Français
LONDON, ON, Jan. 6, 2012 /CNW/ - NDP MP and leadership candidate Peggy Nash will be bringing her support to locked-out Electro-Motive workers in a visit to the picket line in London, tomorrow Saturday January 7.
Nash will be in attendance from 12 - 2p.m. for a family barbeque, organized and sponsored by CAW Local 88 in Ingersoll. She will speak at approximately 12:30. The facility is located at 2021 Oxford Street East.
On January 3, Nash renewed calls to strengthen the Investment Canada Act - which she argues must be changed to ensure it maintains and creates good jobs for Canadians.
"Leaving the Act in its current form is reckless economic policy, and further evidence of how the Harper government fails on job protection and workers' rights," said Nash.
Electro-Motive (Caterpillar) locked out approximately 465 workers on January 1. Caterpillar purchased Electro-Motive in June 2010.
Each week, a local union will take responsibility for organizing and preparing a barbeque for the locked out members.
