MONTREAL, Oct. 2, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - The Gallery MX of Montreal present Canadian painter Dominic Besner's latest exhibit, "The Ivory Madonnas", from November 8th to November 19th, 2017. A return to flamboyant artwork, to characters of sparkling whiteness, staged by the artist's overflowing imagination. A tribute to his faithful elite, those important characters who inhabited his creations through the years.
"If I was given a second life, I would paint the first" – Besner
Prolific artist devoted to his art, he presented, a little two years ago, "The Singularity of Human Nature", a corpus inspired by his childhood. He comes back this time with "The Ivory Madonnas", an exhibit that will delight the long-time collectors. A return to joyful, sparkling colors, to painting inhabited by mythical characters to whom the painters pay tribute, a letter, a few words as a gift. Those words chosen by the artist lead the way to the first story the artist read, impose a beginning that initially leads the public to then set it free with its emotions. Although the artwork can thrive without words, the artist wanted, for the first time, to present this offering to his Madonnas, a gift to thank them for their salutary presence.
Through this new corpus, he shares his exile, his own and the exile of his characters that have appeared through the process and have been by his side in the city, infiltrating his production amidst the 25 years of his career. He honors them, because they are part of his history, they marked his paintings and allow him to express his emotions through time. These Madonnas have been, for Besner, the instruments and the pretext to create an iconography of a fascinating esthetic and rare beauty.
Each character, with its intense look, is turned towards the audience. Each poses, evoking a theme; time, the sea, the corn fields, the cathedrals, the lightness, the wild nights… Then comes the poetic sentence that brings to reflection.
In the painting entitled "Fifre trèflé", he stamps this prose: "It is by the side of the steeple where bells resound, in the dew of time, with two-four-time music, announces your symphony."
To the painting entitled "Ether Blanche", he pairs this quote: "In my polar arms, touch the aurora australis. It scratches the mountainsides, tapestry of mountains."
"There are traces only if we leave some." – Besner
