The Disciplinary Council of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec strikes Guy Hamel from the roll for a period of 4 years Français
MONTREAL, Sept. 1, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - The Disciplinary Council of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec rendered its decision on sanction in the case of Guy Hamel, who will be struck from the OIQ's roll for a period of 4 years. In its decision, the Disciplinary Council also ordered Mr. Hamel to pay a $6,500 fine and all costs in connection with the proceedings, including publication costs.
Mr. Hamel was found guilty of accepting undue advantages on numerous occasions from contractors and consulting engineering firms that were doing business with the Ministry of Transport of Québec. He was also found guilty of failing to maintain his professional independence and lacking impartiality by acting in a way as to benefit potential service providers while he sat on the selection committees that awarded contracts for professional services.
Furthermore, he was found guilty of lacking integrity and going along with dishonest or dubious practices by accepting, on three occasions, the amount of $5,000 from a company as part of a project in 2000 and 2001. He was also found guilty of giving a copy of the cost estimate for the work to representatives of a company during the competitive bidding process for a project in 2003.
Mr. Hamel's alleged offences took place between 1990 and 2005, while he was working for the Ministry of Transport of Québec.
The sanctions imposed by the Disciplinary Council are intended to protect the public, dissuade this professional from repeating the offences and set an example for other members of the profession.
