Stop the Trades Tax Campaign Welcomes Ontario's Next Premier Kathleen Wynne
TORONTO, Jan. 29, 2013 /CNW/ - The Stop The Trades Tax campaign would like to congratulate Kathleen Wynne in her role as new Liberal leader and Premier-designate of Ontario.
"We'd like to congratulate Kathleen Wynne on her historic win," said Sean Reid, Chair of the Stop The Trades Tax campaign. "We look forward to working with Premier-designate Wynne to address our concerns with how the Ontario College of Trades and its Trades Tax will drive up consumer costs and make Ontario less competitive."
Leading up to the Liberal leadership convention, the Stop The Trades Tax campaign invited Premier-designate Wynne and other Liberal leadership candidates to support tradespeople by signing a pledge to Stop The Trades Tax.
"With a new Liberal leader and premier, comes the opportunity to reverse bad policy, and work together to build Ontario's economy. Supporting tradespeople and employers by stopping the Trades Tax is an important first step," Reid added.
If the new Government continues as planned Ontario tradespeople will have to pay membership fees, or a trades tax, to fund the new bureaucracy starting this spring. The new tax will make life more expensive for all Ontario consumers by driving up the cost of a haircut, getting a car serviced, or hiring a plumber or electrician.
The Stop The Trades Tax campaign was launched in 2011 and has grown to 31 organizations whose members represent more than 8,000 small, medium and large Ontario businesses and 130,000 skilled tradespeople across the province. The campaign is supported by tradespeople and business owners who fix our cars and roads, cut our hair, and build and renovate our homes and hospitals.
