Statement by the Mayor in Response to the Passing of Shimon Peres

MONTRÉAL, Sept 28, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - In response to the death of Shimon Peres, the Honourable Denis Coderre, Mayor of Montréal, made the following statement.

"It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Shimon Peres, former president and prime minister of Israel. In particular, we remember his role in the peace agreements, for which he won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994, along with Yasser Arafat and Yitzhak Rabin. A great statesman, who made his mark on history, he pursued his commitment to the peace process throughout his life, notably through the Peres Center for Peace that he established to promote reconciliation, tolerance and cooperation in the Middle East. I offer my sincere condolences to his family, friends and the people of Israel."
