/R E P E A T -- Media advisory - The Canadian Cancer is participating in the parliamentary committee hearing on Bill 44 to bolster tobacco control/

MONTREAL, Sept. 2, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - The Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) – Quebec Division will present its report on the battle against tobacco as an essential component of the larger fight against cancer, La lutte contre le tabac: un incontournable de la lutte contre le cancer, at the Health and Social Services Committee hearing tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. in the National Assembly.

Those who will appear before the committee are Mélanie Champagne, Director for Public Issues, and policy analysts Robert Cunningham and Geneviève Berteau. They will be accompanied by Micheline Bélanger, a former smoker and lung cancer survivor.

The CCS wants the government to adopt strong measures to fight smoking, particularly by banning flavours including menthol, regulating e-cigarettes and increasing no-smoking zones. The CCS would like to stress the importance of including a measure that will address the packaging of tobacco products.

Members of the delegation will be available on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. for interviews (before their presentation in the Salle des Premiers-Ministres in the Pamphile-Le May building). The CCS's report will be available on request.
