OTTAWA, Dec. 13, 2013 /CNW/ - The National Coalition Against Contraband Tobacco (NCACT) is happy to welcome the Quebec provincial organization of Crime Stoppers, 'Échec au crime', to its membership
Founded in 1997, Échec au crime is a not for profit organization which offers Quebecers the means to communicate anonymous tips on criminal activity. Échec au crime's activities help police conduct arrests, seize stolen goods and drugs, make quicker progress during investigations and raise community awareness on crime prevention. Échec au crime is administered by volunteers and is a partnership of the public, police and media to prevent crimes and improve quality of life.
"We are proud to welcome Échec au crime to the NCACT. By joining the coalition, Échec au crime positions itself in the fight against contraband tobacco, an illegal trade that finances organized crime, contributes to youth smoking and deprives governments from important tax revenues," said Michel Rouillard, spokesperson for the NCACT.
The NCACT is a Canadian advocacy group formed with the participation of businesses, organizations and individuals concerned about the growing danger of contraband cigarettes. The National Coalition Against Contraband Tobacco's members share the goals of working together to educate people and urge government to take quick action to stop this growing threat.
"We are happy to join the NCACT in its important fight against contraband tobacco. The sale of contraband cigarettes is an illegal activity that funds organized crime. We encourage citizens in Quebec to provide us with tips on illegal activity in their community, such as contraband tobacco, by calling our anonymous illegal activity hotline at 1-800-711-1800," said Tom McConnell, Quebec Provincial President of Échec au crime.
