Ornge welcomes Coroner's review

MISSISSAUGA, ON, Aug. 15, 2012 /CNW/ - The Office of the Chief Coroner has notified Ornge of an upcoming review by its Patient Safety Review Committee. We support this independent process and will cooperate fully with any request for information. We look forward to the Coroner's recommendations and commit to implementing improvements as the new leadership team and Board of Directors continues to rebuild Ontario's air ambulance and medical transport system.

When a patient death occurs in our care, one of Ornge's Medical Directors reviews each case. If the death meets the criteria outlined in the Coroner's Act, we report the death to the Coroner's Office. When we identify opportunities to improve our operations, we make every effort to do so and continue to work together to implement these solutions.

We wish to reaffirm our commitment to patient safety. It is our top priority. We support our dedicated frontline paramedics, pilots, physicians and communication officers as they continue to ensure patients get the care they need each and every day.
