Media Advisory - ATU HOLDS PRESS CONFERENCE & RALLY ALONGSIDE STRIKING STO TRANSIT WORKERS - OCTOBER 21 Français
GATINEAU, QC, Oct. 20, 2025 /CNW/ - STO transit workers are now On Strike! Despite ATU Local 1557's best efforts to reach a fair agreement at the bargaining table, a deal was not reached as this employer (STO) appears more interested in playing games and causing delays than negotiating a fair contract that addresses the key issues outlined by the Amalgamated Transit Union – ATU Local 1557.
"Our ATU bargaining team has been negotiating in good faith, but the STO is attempting to remove long-standing protections in the collective agreement that safeguard our members' jobs," said Olivier Lachance, President of ATU Local 1557.
"STO has continuously delayed and stalled negotiations. These transit workers have been without a contract since 2023, almost three years. They deserve to earn a living wage that is fair and equitable with the wages at other transit properties. Currently, they earn significantly less than their counterparts elsewhere."
ATU will hold a Press Conference and Rally alongside its striking STO transit workers and is calling on other ATU Locals, union affiliates from other labour sectors, the general public and transit riders to come out and show solidarity with ATU Local 1557 transit workers.
The ATU is always ready to return to the bargaining table to negotiate a fair and just contract for its members; however, STO must stops the games and come back with an offer that our members will accept.
