Golder Associates recognized for business leadership in water management
OTTAWA, Jan. 30, 2012 /CNW/ - Golder Associates Ltd. has been recognized by Water Canada magazine for business leadership in water management.
"By 2050, it's expected that 70% of the world's population will be urban. Water is integral to sustainability, the environment, our society, and the economy. It's also intimately tied to energy, land use, industry, food security, waste, how we extract and manage natural resources, as well as governance and politics," says Jeanette Southwood, Golder Associates Principal and Global and Canadian Sustainable Cities Leader in the company's Ottawa office.
Water Canada's subsidiary publication, Water's Next, is specifically dedicated to showcasing Canadian water sector innovations and achievements in four categories: People, Projects, Business, and Innovations.
The Water's Next selection committee chose Golder Associates after a thorough review of many nominations and project submissions. While Golder's successful nomination showcased multiple water-related approaches and projects, the publication specifically highlighted Golder's global presence and showcased a local Canadian project to help the Region of Waterloo comply with new Ontario provincial government legislation intended to protect groundwater supplies (http://watersnext.com/2012/golder-associates/).
Golder Associates brings a creative approach to helping communities manage their water needs. "We've used innovative approaches to help municipalities find new water supplies and assess the sustainability of those supplies," according to John Piersol, an Associate and Hydrogeologist at Golder Associates.
Golder is also being recognized for projects in Australia, South Africa, India, and the United States involving water stewardship, managing water supply, sustainable urban water management, managing water impacts for the oil and gas and mining sectors, and identifying climate change vulnerabilities.
"Being a global company we leverage our international experience for the benefit of our local clients," says Southwood. "The global connection is an important part of where we're going as a company to develop water solutions for the future."
