Entrust First North American CA to Complete Audit for New CA/Browser Forum SSL Baseline Requirements
Audit highlights decades of continued leadership in digital certificate industry
DALLAS, June 19, 2013 /CNW/ - Entrust Certificate Services, the SSL and digital certificate division of Entrust Inc., is the first North American certification authority (CA) to complete a third-party audit to verify compliance with the CA/Browser Forum's newest SSL standards, "Baseline Requirements for the Issuance and Management of Publicly-Trusted Certificates."
"Entrust has long been a leader in the creation, adoption and promotion of the standards critical to the establishment of the SSL trust infrastructure," said Entrust Certificate Services senior vice president David Rockvam. "Entrust's continued leadership in this technology is why we have been the first to receive the WebTrust Seal of Assurance for Extended Validation, the Microsoft Windows Root Certificate Program and now the CA/Browser Forum's Baseline Requirements."
Entrust first began its dedication to SSL standards and practices in 2001 by being the first CA to earn the WebTrust CA Seal of Assurance. Awarded by Deloitte & Touche, this qualification complies with the WebTrust standards for issuing and managing digital certificates established by both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accounts (CICA).
In 2007, Entrust was the first to receive the WebTrust Seal of Assurance from Deloitte for extended validation SSL certificates. Following the trend, Entrust was the first CA in 2012 to be reviewed by a third party to comply with the technical requirements of the Microsoft Windows Root Certificate Program.
"Entrust continues to be a strong proponent of digital certificates, which are and will continue to be the baseline for strong online security," said Rockvam. "We invest in the technology, management and security of the SSL ecosystem and believe that with high standards and security practices SSL will remain the standard for a long time to come."
Entrust Certificate Services provide organizations with SSL and specialty digital certificates that are proven, cost-effective and supported by standards-based technology. Entrust's public root is ubiquitous on more than 99.9 percent of desktop and mobile browsers.
In January 2013, respected analyst firm Frost & Sullivan updated their findings of an in-depth market evaluation, confirming Entrust as the No. 2 provider of SSL digital certificates and services in the world.
