MONTREAL, Sept. 29, 2026 /CNW/ -- As part of an Élections Québec initiative aimed at making it easier to get to polling places, the BIXI and àVélo bike-sharing services will be available free of charge* on October 5, Election Day. Élections Québec has chosen to leverage the bike-sharing networks operating in more than 20 cities across Quebec to offer this additional transportation option to citizens.
Over the past few years, the two bikeshare services have repeatedly demonstrated their agility and operational capabilities, whether during large-scale events or community gatherings. By agreeing to participate in this Élections Québec campaign, BIXI and àVélo are leveraging their connected, reliable, flexible, and accessible networks to promote democratic participation.
"The BIXI network is now available in 20 cities in the Greater Montreal area and in Sherbrooke. As a public transit system, BIXI's role is to provide transportation not only for daily commutes, but also during festivals, periods of service disruptions, and more. "Our strength lies in the flexibility and accessibility of our service, as well as its ability to integrate with other modes of transportation. By joining this Élections Québec campaign, we hope to offer residents a simple transportation option for getting to the polls," says Christian Vermette, General Manager of BIXI Montréal.

A different offer for each network
Whether leaving home or work, either to or from the polling place, this promotion by Élections Québec will allow citizens to use bike-sharing for free on Election Day.
In the 20 cities served by the BIXI network, on the Island of Montreal, in Laval, on the South Shore, the North Shore, and in Sherbrooke, users will be able to enjoy free rides between 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 p.m., lasting up to 25 minutes on a regular bike or 15 minutes on an electric-assist bike.
In Quebec City, riders will be able to obtain a free "Journée Élections Québec" pass, valid from 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on October 5, which includes an unlimited number of trips lasting up to 45 minutes.
