MONTRÉAL, Sept. 8, 2026 /CNW/ -- From September 19 to 27, as Montreal comes alive with the excitement of the World Cycling Championships, BIXI will help put the city on the map by providing Montrealers and visitors with an enhanced service to get around, all while taking part in the festivities! With more than 120 stations located near the races, including 17 drop-off stations with valets and a presence in the fan zone, BIXI will be on hand to make all races easier, whether they're everyday errands or athletic events.
In a few days, Montreal will welcome more than 1,000 athletes and nearly 550,000 spectators for one of the world's largest cycling competitions.
The competition routes will result in temporary street closures to motor traffic. In light of this, BIXI is announcing the implementation of measures that include enhancements to its service in key areas, as well as tools to provide local residents and visitors with a flexible, active, and efficient mobility solution throughout the duration of the event.
Therefore, while the world's best cyclists race through the city and its surrounding towns, thousands of Montrealers will also be able to go about their daily runs!
Enhanced Service at the Heart of the Action
BIXI will expand its operations along the Championship routes and in key areas of the network, particularly on the Plateau-Mont-Royal, in Old Montreal, downtown, and around the mountain.
"The World Championships are an exceptional opportunity to showcase Montréal as a cycling city, but also to remind people that cycling is an integral part of daily life for thousands of people. While the world's best cyclists race to cross the finish line, Montrealers will not only be able to watch the official races, but also continue with their own daily rides: commuting to work, picking up the kids, meeting up with friends, or simply getting around the city! "As a transportation system, our role is to ensure that both residents and visitors can get around during this major event," said Christian Vermette, General Director of BIXI Montréal.
First, in honor of the World Championships, the BIXI monthly subscription is being upgraded: members will enjoy 60 minutes of regular BIXI ride time included per trip, instead of 45, between September 13 and 27. A membership is the best option for experiencing the World Championships at your own pace, with flexible access to the BIXI system to get to competitions, explore Montreal by bike, and get around easily every day. With a network that extends all the way to Chambly, where some events will also take place, cycling enthusiasts can enjoy a complete Championships experience, from Montreal to the South Shore.
BIXISTs will have access to a robust network of 120 stations located within 500 meters of the routes, not only in Montreal but also in Chambly. Depending on the day and the route, up to 17 drop-off stations will be available, where valets will ensure that docking stations are available upon arrival and bikes are ready for departure. Six of these stations are specifically located near competition venues, and all operating hours will be extended to better meet users' needs.
In addition, BIXI will expand its service in the morning by delivering additional bikes to several dozen stations, particularly in areas affected by traffic restrictions. This expansion will help meet the expected surge in ridership following the events while supporting users' daily commutes as the back-to-school season is in session. BIXI teams will monitor network usage and adjust their operations based on ridership and on-site conditions.

Finally, the BIXI mobile app remains the best tool for planning your trips: use it to locate stations, check the availability of bikes and docking stations in real time, and choose the route that best suits your needs. Users can also use the app to easily find drop-off stations with valet service thanks to the dedicated icon in the app.
BIXI is Joining in the Festivities
Beyond its role as a mobility partner, BIXI will be part of the excitement surrounding the World Championships by offering a festive experience to spectators and users. In the Fan Zone and at several competition venues, visitors will be able to enjoy activities, entertainment, and goodies in BIXI's colors. It's a way to extend the World Championships experience, share a passion for cycling, and promote active mobility in the heart of the city.
