Eight employees losing their jobs at Your Neighbourhood Credit Union
WINDSOR, ON, June 11, 2015 /CNW/ - With one of the highest unemployment rates in the country, the eight employees at Your Neighbourhood Credit Union were devastated when they were advised on May 7, 2015 that they would be losing their jobs.
The eight workers, employed in the Windsor and LaSalle branches of Your Neighbourhood Credit Union, members of the Canadian Office and Professional Employees Union, Local 343 were advised that they were all being made redundant effective July 31, 2015 as the Credit Union was moving to an advisory branch model at the Windsor and LaSalle branches. The employees were told that this advisory branch model does not offer wicket services to members, instead these member cash transactions are completed via an ATM ('In-Lobby-Teller') and that all employees were being declared redundant. This has been devastating news for all employees, some with more than ten years of service at the Credit Union.
The Credit Union has decided to operate the Windsor and LaSalle branches with managers and in addition to the current managers, are hiring additional managers to run the branches once the change to the new advisory model with the ATM ('In-Lobby-Teller') takes place.
The COPE members, in addition to the concerns over the loss of their jobs, have also stated that they will miss the Credit Union members that they have served and developed relationships with over their years with the Credit Union. They have enjoyed providing the members with personal member service.
