Convergence 2026: Micrologic unveils its Canadian Sovereign Digital Vault, ready to protect the country's data

QUÉBEC CITY, Oct. 2, 2026 /CNW/ -- Yesterday, Micrologic unveiled the Canadian Sovereign Digital Vault, the most ambitious project in its history. The announcement was made to an audience of over 1,000 technology stakeholders gathered at the Voltigeurs de Québec Armoury for Convergence, the country's largest event dedicated to digital sovereignty. The Vault's solutions are now available to Canadian businesses and institutions.

The Vault is a sovereign, high-capacity repository designed to host and protect data from one end of Canada to the other. It makes use of Micrologic's Cirrus cloud solutions to protect an organization's data by locking away an isolated copy of the data, allowing the organization to resume operations quickly after a cybersecurity incident. The data is hosted here and remains under exclusively Canadian jurisdiction.

It's about the resilience of our businesses, and it's the first step towards digital sovereignty. Its scope makes the Sovereign Digital Vault a major project of national interest," says Stéphane Garneau, CEO of Micrologic.

A turnkey project that's already funded

The Vault is based on technology that Micrologic already uses to protect sensitive data for government departments, cities, healthcare facilities, and financial institutions. Recently, $45 million in financial support from the Fonds de solidarité FTQ and Investissement Québec gave Micrologic the means to achieve its ambitions.

In its agreement with the Government of Québec, Micrologic signed the Québec Clauses, which protect the company from being sold to foreign interests. The company plans to invest hundreds of millions of dollars over the next few years in its infrastructure, workforce, and research and development. The Vault will allow nearly $5 billion to be brought back to Canada over ten years.

A market dominated by three American giants

Today, three American providers control approximately 85% of the Canadian cloud computing market. According to Gartner, 80% of global spending on sovereign cloud infrastructure will come from new projects and from systems that have not yet been migrated to the cloud. In 2025, the Canadian cloud market hit nearly $26 billion. Most of this was paid to US companies.

Convergence 2026

This was the third Convergence event, drawing over 1,000 technology industry insiders to Québec City. A panel discussion between the Quebec Liberal Party and the Parti Québécois explored the two political parties' ideas on digital sovereignty ahead of the upcoming general election on October 5. A panel of experts made up of Pierre Trudel, Professor Emeritus of Law at the Université de Montréal, Siham Guebli, a strategic project manager specializing in technological sovereignty and cybersecurity, and Stéfanie Vallée, a doctoral candidate at UQAC researching sustainable digital transformation, kicked off a discussion on the question of why and how to take control of one's digital destiny.

The day ended with a networking cocktail reception followed by a charity gala that raised more than a quarter of a million dollars for the Fondation du CHU de Québec.
