Commercial Real Estate Community Honours Two Industry Heavyweights at Annual REX Awards

TORONTO, March 26, 2014 /CNW/ - The Greater Toronto Chapter of NAIOP is pleased to announce the recipients of this year's individual awards for outstanding contributions to the industry. The honours will be handed out at the 13^th Annual NAIOP Real Estate Excellence (REX) Awards on April 9, 2014 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

Peter Sharpe, former President and CEO of Cadillac Fairview Corporation will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award and Stephen Taylor, President of Morguard Investments Limited will be the recipient of the prestigious Community Service Award.

During Peter Sharpe's 11 years as CEO, Cadillac Fairview expanded beyond Canada and the USA to the UK and Brazil and during his tenure with the company it grew from $6 billion in assets to over $20 billion. Peter also served as the Global Chairman of the International Council of Shopping Centers and in 2010 he was named the recipient of the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) Canada Chairman's Award in recognition for his 40 years of service, expertise and leadership. Peter continues to serve on several boards including First Industrial Realty Trust, Postmedia Network, Morguard Corporation, Allied Properties and Cliffton Blake Group.

Stephen Taylor is active in community service and has for many years served on the Boards of Directors of Covenant House Toronto and the Catholic Children's Aid Society of Toronto where he is currently serving as Board Chair. Stephen is a passionate advocate for the welfare of many of the country's most vulnerable children and young people. In the real estate sector he is also a Director of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Managers (NAREIM) and is Board Chair of the Real Property Association of Canada (REALpac).

The 13^th Annual NAIOP Real Estate Excellence (REX) Awards is the premier event for the office, industrial and mixed-use, real estate industry in the GTA. The gala on April 9, 2014 will recognize 'Best of the Year' teams in seven award categories and a Developing Leader (35 years of age and under) along with the two honourees.
