The final goose will be reinstalled beneath the newly revitalized galleria skylight roof on May 3
TORONTO, May 1, 2023 /CNW/ - CF Toronto Eaton Centre's beloved geese have migrated home just in time for spring and Cadillac Fairview (CF) is celebrating their triumphant return. The iconic "Flight Stop" art installation, commissioned by CF and designed by late Toronto artist Michael Snow, has been on display at the CF Toronto Eaton Centre since 1979.
"Flight Stop is a masterful landmark that is not only synonymous with CF Toronto Eaton Centre, but also the City of Toronto's heritage for nearly 45 years," said David Stewart, Senior Director, Project Management, Development at Cadillac Fairview. "As we continue to evolve the shopping centre, we're proud to restore and reinstate such an important cultural display that is cherished by both our local community and the millions of visitors that come to the centre each year."
In January 2022, the permanent sculptural installation was temporarily removed for professional restoration by Toronto Art Restoration Inc., coinciding with the first phase of the revitalization of the centre's galleria skylight roof located directly above the display. The South section of the roof is now complete, updated with the latest materials and technologies to improve its long-term energy efficiency and sustainability. Phase two of the redevelopment is highlighted by roof enhancements above the North Court as well as improvements to elevators and the addition of three new staircases, expected to be completed in 2024.
On May 3rd 2023, CF is commemorating the reinstallation of Flight Stop in a private ceremony. Media are invited to join and watch the final goose take flight to join the rest of the flock. For more information on the event, see below:
