CAW Donates to Cambridge and Waterloo Region Food Banks
KITCHENER, ON, Dec. 22 /CNW/ - The CAW will be making a donation today to the Food Bank of Waterloo Region of $3,500 and $2,000 to the Cambridge Self-Help Food Bank, as part of a donation by the union to 45 local food banks across the country, totaling $135,000.
Both presentations will take place today, Wednesday, December 22: at the Food Bank of Waterloo Region at 10 a.m., at 50 Alpine Court in Kitchener; and at the Cambridge Self-Help Food Bank at 12 noon at 54 Ainslie Street South in Cambridge.
Through the Food Bank of Waterloo Region, 7,810 food hampers were distributed in one month alone this year - 6,148 households received food hampers, representing 14,575 people. Nearly 40 per cent of food bank users are under the age of 18.
In Cambridge, the Self-Help Food Bank assists 1,000 families a month, plus another 450-520 families through other partner agencies. The Self-Help Food Bank saw an increase in need of 16 per cent from 2009-2010.
