BlackNorth Initiative CEO Dahabo Ahmed-Omer Named One of Canada's Top 40 Under 40®
National honour recognizes Ahmed-Omer's leadership in transforming institutions, expanding economic opportunity and building a more inclusive society
TORONTO, Sept. 16, 2026 /CNW/ -- Dahabo Ahmed-Omer, Chief Executive Officer of BlackNorth Initiative, has been named one of Canada's Top 40 Under 40® for 2026, one of the country's most prestigious honours recognizing exceptional leadership, achievement and impact. The honour places her among 40 leaders selected nationally this year and recognizes a career dedicated to challenging systemic barriers, transforming institutions and expanding economic opportunity.
Ahmed-Omer began her career in the federal public service, where she held roles advancing employment equity, anti-racism and organizational transformation. She has since emerged as a national leader at the intersection of business, institutional change and community impact, with a record of turning commitments to equity into measurable institutional and economic change.
Today, as Chief Executive Officer of the BlackNorth Initiative, Ahmed-Omer leads one of Canada's most prominent organizations focused on dismantling systemic anti-Black racism by mobilizing the influence, resources and leadership of Corporate Canada. Under her leadership, BlackNorth has evolved beyond a national corporate pledge into a platform driving institutional accountability while creating tangible pathways to education, employment, entrepreneurship, leadership and homeownership for Black Canadians.
Her influence extends beyond BlackNorth Initiative. Ahmed-Omer also serves on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion (CCDI), contributing her experience and perspective to the national conversation on the future of inclusive leadership and workplaces in Canada.

Under Ahmed-Omer's leadership, BlackNorth Initiative has supported thousands of Black Canadians through education, employment, entrepreneurship, mentorship, scholarships and bursaries, leadership development and pathways to homeownership, while working with some of Canada's leading institutions to translate commitments into measurable action. Companies that have signed the BlackNorth Pledge represent more than $1.5 trillion in combined market value.
Ahmed-Omer's leadership has previously been recognized with the King Charles III Coronation Medal, The Globe and Mail's inaugural Business Changemakers Award, and recognition among the Top Global 100 Under 40 Most Influential People of African Descent.
Established in 1995, Canada's Top 40 Under 40® has recognized more than 800 Canadians, selected by an independent Advisory Board of leaders from the private, public and not-for-profit sectors. The 2026 cohort, the first since the program's relaunch, was announced today on financialpost.com.
