46th Annual Terry Fox Run to Unite Canadians in Support of Cancer Research on Sunday September 20, 2026

Today supporters can double their impact on cancer research with a matching gift opportunity to help finish what Terry started

TORONTO, Sept. 9, 2026 /CNW/ -- On Sunday, September 20, 2026, thousands of Canadians from nearly 600 communities across the country will take part in the 46th annual Terry Fox Run, raising critical funds to advance cancer research.

"Terry never set out to become a hero, he simply believed that something had to change and took action," said Jessie Alder, Terry's niece. "This spirit lives on to this day when every year, Canadians of all ages come together to take part in the Terry Fox Run. Together we keep Terry's dream alive and show that one person's determination can inspire meaningful change."

For 46 years, the Terry Fox Run has become a uniquely Canadian tradition, bringing people together in support of the shared goal of a world without cancer. This year, more than four million Canadians are expected to participate in a Terry Fox Run in their local communities and schools.

The collective support of Canadians has made a lasting impact on cancer research. Earlier this year, the Terry Fox Foundation announced they surpassed $1 billion raised for cancer research, a historic milestone made possible by the contributions of millions of Canadians.

"Terry believed that research could change the future of cancer, and Canadians have spent more than four decades helping turn that belief into action," said Michael Mazza, Chief Executive Officer of the Terry Fox Foundation. "Unprecedented national collaboration and data sharing is enabling the advancement of precision medicine from coast to coast to coast and showing us the path to the finish line. Today, Terry's commitment to research is being carried forward through initiatives such as the Marathon of Hope Cancer Centres Network (MOHCCN). Led by the Terry Fox Research Institute, MOHCCN brings together patients, researchers, clinicians and donors from more than 100 research and funding institutions across Canada to advance precision oncology at a scale no single organization could achieve alone. Clinical data from more than 16,000 patients now form Canada's largest cancer case resource, giving researchers, clinicians, and patients an unprecedented foundation for discovery and action.

Continued investment in research can help improve early detection, expand access to precision medicine, and bring more effective treatments to patients sooner. While extraordinary progress has been made, there is still much work to do.

The Terry Fox Run is one way Canadians can help continue the Marathon of Hope and finish what Terry started. People of all ages and abilities are invited to walk, run, blade, skate or wheel on Sunday, September 20, 2026 in their local community. The Terry Fox School Run will follow with more than 10,000 schools across Canada are expected to participate this fall.
