Fall 2015 ratings confirm TVA is maintaining its leading position in Québec and remains firmly ensconced at the top
MONTREAL, Jan. 12, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - TVA remains the television leader in Québec. Its dominance was confirmed once again by the Numeris surveys covering the September 7th to December 6th, 2015 period.
First overall
Year after year, TVA remains number one seven days a week. It leads the ratings from Salut, Bonjour! in the morning to the 10 p.m. news with a 23.5% audience share, compared with 13.4% for Société Radio-Canada (SRC) and 7.4% for Vtélé.
The performance of the morning show Salut, bonjour! is worthy of note: in its 28th season, it grew its audience by 7% to an average of 377,000 viewers. After 11 seasons, the popular game show Le banquier continues to be a standout; its Les beaux malaises special was seen by nearly 2 million viewers (1,979,200).
High drama
In prime time (6 p.m. to 11 p.m.), TVA has pulled off the rare feat of placing first six nights out of seven in a highly fragmented market. The original dramas Au secours de Béatrice, Boomerang, O', Pour Sarah and Yamaska each attracted more than a million viewers.
THE trusted news source
TVA's noon, 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts all continued to lead their time slots. The 6 p.m. news, anchored by Pierre Bruneau, was far ahead with 774,000 viewers, compared with 305,000 for SRC. The 10 p.m. news, anchored by Sophie Thibault, was watched by 411,000 viewers while SRC had 305,000. On federal election night, TVA convincingly demonstrated its leadership in news coverage once again with a combined audience share (for TVA Network and LCN) that broke through the million-viewer mark several times and peaked at 1,474,000.
TVA Group leads the pack
Together, TVA Group's television properties – TVA Network and the specialty channels – dominated the television landscape with a combined audience share of 33.1%, compared to18.1% for Groupe SRC and 14.6% for Bell Media.
Digital
TVA continues to perform strongly on the digital front. For example, on November 29 th, 2015, Le banquier broke another Internet record with a social reach of more than 1,250,000 on Facebook and more than 230,000 social media interactions in less than 2 hours. The Le banquier Facebook contest was also a record-breaker according to Seevibes. Le banquier was the top program on Québec social media during the past 12 months, ending the 2015 season with an 87% increase in Facebook fans. The new webseries Papa was also an instant success, garnering 2 million viewings on Facebook.
TVA begins the new year on a strong note with the return of eagerly awaited shows such as La Voix, Les beaux malaises, Les jeunes loups and Piment fort.
"Year after year, TVA's team rises to the challenge of delivering content that moves viewers and brings them together, content that the audience wants to watch when it is broadcast," said Suzane Landry, Senior Director, Specialty channels and Programming, TVA Group. "During the fall 2015 season, TVA was the over-the-air channel with the highest rate of live viewing: 85% during prime time."
