TORONTO, Sept. 7, 2012 /CNW/ - Toronto Hydro-Electric System Limited ("Toronto Hydro") has again been made aware that some customers have recently been called by individuals offering to sell a power saver device, sometimes referred to as an 'in-home display unit'. These individuals are asking customers to provide personal credit card information over the phone, in order to purchase the device. Toronto Hydro issued a similar warning about these solicitations earlier this year.
Toronto Hydro does not sell energy saving products and advises customers to be aware of this fraudulent representation. In addition, Toronto Hydro does not request that customers provide credit card information over the phone.
Toronto Hydro does offer an in-home energy display, however it is free-of-charge when customers enrol in peaksaver PLUS™. For more information on this electricity conservation program, visit torontohydro.com/peaksaver.
Customers receiving these solicitations should report such activity to Toronto Hydro at (416) 542-8000 or at torontohydro.com and click on Contact Us and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre by calling it at 1-888-495-8501, or through its website at antifraudcentre.ca.
Customers who receive phone calls or visits from people who claim affiliation to Toronto Hydro should confirm such affiliation by requesting identification and/or by contacting Toronto Hydro at (416) 542-8000 or visiting torontohydro.com.
