Tickets going fast to many history-making competitions
TORONTO, Aug. 9, 2015 /CNW/ - The largest Parapan Am Games in history are underway and Canada is off to a strong start with 16 medals in its first day, and tickets to key competitions are going fast. Today is "Super Sunday" for the home country. Come out to the CIBC Pan Am/Parapan Am Aquatics Centre and Field House for a chance to see Canada make history and win a possible seven gold medals.

A number of events are sold out or almost sold out. A few tickets remain for some sessions of popular events, including sitting volleyball, track cycling, wheelchair tennis and the football 5-a-side and boccia gold-medal games. Below are some great events to see this week.
More records falling at spectacular new pool on Super Sunday
The pool is simply one of the best places to be during the Parapan Am Games and Sunday night is expected to be a great night for Canadians with gold-medal chances in seven of 15 events scheduled for today. Brazil is the top country in swimming but competition will also feature U.S., Colombian, Mexican and Argentinean stars as well as other top athletes from many other countries. Many Parapan Am records were broken on Day 1, and spectators and athletes continue to be in awe of the new CIBC Pan Am/Parapan Am Aquatics Centre and Field House and the incredible atmosphere it provides. Swimming runs through Friday night.
Monday is opening day of track and field at new stadium
Star track and field athletes from the Americas have already embraced the new CIBC Pan Am/Parapan Am Athletics Stadium and now it's time to see more blazing speed, incredible strength and amazing endurance of the Parapan Am athletes. Athletics embodies the faster, higher, stronger motto more than any other. The 100-metre final on Tuesday features three of the top four blade runners in the world, and American star Jarryd Wallace is predicting a new world record in a lightning fast race under 10.75 seconds. Athletics runs through Friday.
Wheelchair basketball – teams set on knocking-off Canada
Spots for the Paralympic Games in Rio will go to the top teams, so there is a lot on the line. The Canadian women's wheelchair basketball team are world champions and hoping to stay on top. The Canadian men are defending Paralympic champions but are facing stiff competition. Fans will see outstanding action as well as amazing shooting and passing skills as some of the best players in the world play for teams coming from the Americas. The games are played at the intimate Ryerson Athletic Centre in downtown Toronto. Wheelchair basketball runs through Saturday.
Wheelchair rugby – hard-hitting action in Mississauga
Wheelchair rugby players play the game with force and the crashing of wheelchairs at full speed is just part of the game. Speed, skill and team work is as important as force and tenacity. Canada is one of the top countries in the world but will need to knock off a tough U.S. team that has designs on a gold medal of their own. The two countries square off on Wednesday. Wheelchair rugby runs through Friday.
Buying tickets to the Games
Tickets for Parapan Am sporting events range from $20 to $35 for adults, with a youth (under 16) and senior (65+) discount from $10 to $12.50 available, depending on the event. The number of discounted tickets is limited, so don't delay.
