MATANE, QC, April 16, 2019 /CNW/ - Our trade corridors have to be at peak efficiency if we want Canadian businesses to succeed in global markets. The Government of Canada is proud to support projects that will support quality jobs for the middle class and stimulate economic growth.
The Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport, today announced federal funding of $1,497,600 for a project to support the commercial wharf at the port of Matane. The value of the project is $1,664,000 in total.
With this financial support, CEG Engineering will be able to install modular structures over the commercial wharf in Matane, increasing the productivity and efficiency of the wharf until the Government of Quebec rebuilds it. This funding by the Government of Canada will help local businesses maintain and diversify their commercial operations as well as ensuring user safety.
"Our government is investing in the Canadian economy by improving our trade and transportation corridors. We support projects that will stimulate economic growth, create quality jobs for the middle class and keep Canada's transportation system competitive, efficient and safe."
The Honourable Marc Garneau
Minister of Transport
"I am delighted at the support from the Government of Canada, which has chosen to build on strong and prosperous regions by investing in infrastructure that is critical for their economic development. Such an investment in the Port of Matane shows our willingness to maintain the Port's operations until its reconstruction, while supporting businesses in order to improve their competitiveness and their productivity."
