Conference participants to discuss how to accelerate the development of innovative approaches to improve the lives of children and their families
OTTAWA, Nov. 12, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - On November 17-18, some of Canada's leading child and family health researchers will meet in Ottawa for the 2014 Innovating Child and Family Health Conference. They will join doctors, patients, parents, caregivers, philanthropists, hospital foundations, and private sector representatives to engage in dynamic discussions with one goal in mind – improving the future health of Canada's children and families. Eve Adams, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Health and Member of Parliament (Mississauga-Brampton), will deliver opening remarks on behalf of the Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Health.
Many chronic diseases faced by adults could be prevented through appropriate early childhood interventions and with the right prenatal care. This conference aims to foster the development of partnerships between researchers and stakeholders with an interest in child and family health. The hope is that greater collaboration will help fast track the transformation of research into real life products or services to help children get the best start in life. Participants will explore ways to innovate in areas such as healthy pregnancies, early brain development, child and youth mental health, injury prevention, active lifestyles and healthy weight.
The conference is organized by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), and its Institute of Human Development, Child and Youth Health, in collaboration with child and family foundations and organizations from across the country. The event is made possible with support from the SickKids Foundation, the BC Children's Hospital Foundation and CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation.
