"We decided many years ago that we could help make a difference by supporting Hamilton Food Share," says Darren Green, United Steelworkers (USW) Area Council President.
"We recognize the great work they do to help people in our community who need help, especially at a time of year when giving often gives way to summer vacations."
The USW will kick off the Food Share campaign by presenting a $9,000 donation today at 11 a.m. at the Steelworkers Hall. The money was raised through the Rick Woods Memorial Golf Tournament, held in honour of the late, dedicated activist from USW Local 5328 who made a difference in the lives of many in his community.
"Steelworkers believe in community building and our partnership with Hamilton Food Share is one way we do it," says USW Area Co-ordinator Tom Walsh.
"Knowing that summer is a slow time for food bank donations, Steelworkers want to make sure that no one in our community is going hungry."
