Statement of the Mayor on the passing of the Honourable Jim Prentice

MONTRÉAL, Oct. 14, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - The Mayor of Montreal, Mr. Denis Coderre, has reacted with sadness to the announcement of the death of his former House of Commons colleague, the Honourable Jim Prentice: "An effective parliamentarian, Mr. Prentice's life was characterized by his deep commitment to citizens and his exemplary professionalism. I am distressed to learn that he leaves to mourn his wife Karen, his three daughters and his two grandchildren. I offer my deepest condolences to his family and friends and wish them all the serenity they need to sustain them through this difficult time," said Mr. Coderre.

A lawyer and politician, Jim Prentice lived his entire life in Alberta where he launched his career in federal politics, first as the Member of Parliament for Calgary Centre-North from 2004 to 2010, then as Minister of the Environment and Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development. He became Premier of Alberta in September 2014 and held that office until May 2015.
