Richard Fahey named CFIB's Acting Vice-President for Quebec

TORONTO, Oct. 13 /CNW Telbec/ - Catherine Swift, President and CEO of the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB), has appointed Richard Fahey as CFIB's Acting Vice-President for Quebec.

Fahey, who currently holds the position of Senior Vice-President, Strategic Development, will take on additional responsibilities that include advocacy and government relations in Quebec as well as managing the human and financial resources of CFIB's Quebec operations. Fahey will also be the main spokesperson for the media. It may be recalled that Fahey held the position of Vice-President, Quebec, for CFIB between 2001 and 2007.

"Our elected representatives simply cannot ignore the various issues that affect small businesses", says Fahey. "Small business prosperity determines the health of our economy which, in turn, has an impact on the entire population. SMEs not only help in minimizing negative effects on employment during the last recession but they are also leading the way for the current economic recovery. Small business owners are strongly in favour of reducing payroll taxes which are the highest in Canada. As such, the notion of tax competitiveness must be front and centre not just in tax reforms but also in the administration of government spending."

Catherine Swift acknowledges and appreciates Simon Prévost's contribution to CFIB's activities in Quebec and wishes him success in his new career.

The Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) represents the
interests of small- and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) at all levels of
government. CFIB has 105,000 small business members across Canada, of
which 24,000 are in Quebec. CFIB is a non-partisan organization that is
    financed solely through membership dues.
