TORONTO, March 4, 2015 /CNW/ - This morning, Toronto Hydro continues to respond to approximately 15,000 customers without power due to yesterday's weather event. Extra crews worked throughout the night to deal with the high number of power outages and restored approximately 85% of the affected customers. All remaining power outages have been assigned to crews who are working as quickly and safely as possible to restore power. While many customers will be restored throughout the day, some areas with more extensive damage may remain without power until 6 p.m. today.
At the height of the storm, Toronto Hydro had approximately 87,000 customers without power primarily due to distribution system failure including multiple pole fires, compounded by intermittent outages from Hydro One Networks Inc. (HONI) transmission supply.
As crews work to restore power today, please keep safety top of mind:
- If you spot a downed wire, please stay back (at least 10 feet) and report it to 911 or to Toronto Hydro's operations centre at 416-542-8000.
- With additional crews and trucks on the road, be mindful of the construction sites while walking or driving today. Stay back if you see a hydro truck working on equipment in your neighbourhood.
- Check on vulnerable neighbours or friends that might need some extra help during an extended power outage.
