Omnicom Media Group Tops All Others at Cannes
Group Takes 19 awards; OMD and PHD Are Top Two Media Lions Winners
CANNES, France, June 21, 2013 /CNW/ - For the second year in a row, Omnicom Media Group (OMG) tops the list of media agency holding company winners at the annual Cannes Festival of Creativity, as its flagship agencies OMD and PHD took home a combined total of 19 Lions -- earning them the number one and two spots respectively in terms of most awards won by individual agency networks in the media category -- and OMD Australia was named Media Agency of the Year.
OMD SCORES THE #1 SPOT
In addition to its Agency of the Year accolade, OMD earned a total of 12 Lions – 10 in the Media category alone -- making it the most awarded individual media agency network at the festival. Included among the agency's even dozen awards were a Grand Prix in the Press category, awarded to OMD US for its Apple iPad-mini campaign; and a Creative Effectiveness Lion awarded to Manning Gottlieb OMD UK for its John Lewis campaign.
OMD's wins in the Media category included two Gold Lions, four Silver and four Bronze. Winning campaigns came from across multiple OMD markets, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, China, Russia, Denmark, Spain, Hong Kong and New Zealand, featuring work executed on behalf of several of the world's top global brands, such as McDonald's, Pepsi, and Doritos
A RECORD SHOWING FOR PHD
Keeping it all in the family, PHD joined its sister agency at the top of the Media leader board, besting all other media agencies in the competition and securing the number two slot by taking home a total of seven Media Lions – one Gold, one Silver and five Bronze. Demonstrating creative, strategic and geographic depth and breadth in their winning campaigns, PHD's wins encompassed work from across multiple markets, including the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and the United Kingdom; and advertiser categories, including Beauty (Unilever's Dove Soap), Spirits (Absolut vodka), Media (The Economist Group) and Non-Profit (Amnesty International).
"This outstanding showing at Cannes – especially this year, when the quality and quantity of work submitted was beyond impressive - validates our commitment to delivering creative media strategies that produce real business results for our clients," says Daryl Simm, CEO of Omnicom Media Group Worldwide. "It's a powerful statement about the individual strength and talented people of our agencies, as well as our great clients that always inspire us to do better work."
