MOUNT PEARL, NL, Oct. 11, 2017 /CNW/ - Investing in modern and efficient roadways is integral to building safe and prosperous communities where Canadians want to live and work. The governments of Canada and Newfoundland and Labrador are committed to supporting well-planned infrastructure that contributes to economic growth by creating good paying middle class jobs and makes it easier for people and products to move through the province.
The Honourable Seamus O'Regan, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence, on behalf of the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities; the Honourable Dale Kirby, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, on behalf of the Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment; and His Worship Dave Aker, Mayor of Mount Pearl, today announced more than $9.4 million in federal-provincial funding for two road improvement projects in Mount Pearl.
The first project will involve widening and repaving portions of both Topsail and Blackmarsh roads, and reconfiguring the Blackmarsh-Topsail Intersection to allow for traffic signals. The wastewater management system will also be upgraded, and new curbs, gutters, sidewalks and bus lay-by areas will be installed.
The second project will involve repaving Commonwealth Avenue from Glendale Avenue to Francis Street, upgrading or installing 2,000 metres of sidewalks, and upgrading the traffic signals at four key locations. The water and wastewater management systems will also be updated along this important roadway.
